DAY CASE

The day-case unit is designed so as to offer a paramount safe environment and to exceed the patient’s and physician’s expectations.

Conveniently located on the first floor, Farah’s day-case unit spans 2000 sqm and sets new benchmarks when it comes to patient care pathway.

The unit is composed of the following:

  • 16 generously spaced patient rooms each with its own bathroom and shower
  • Two state-of-the-art operating rooms
  • Two “clean room” endoscopy suites
  • One “Hybrid” endoscopy suite for advanced ERCP and EUS procedures
  • Advanced urology/lithotripsy suite for routine and complex urology interventions
  • Chemotherapy treatment suites
  • Wellness clinic
  • Cardiac clinic
  • Visiting consultant clinics
  • The traditional approach of day-case patients using cubicles and sharing toilets was abandoned in favor of providing each patient with a private room with toilet and shower facility thus ensuring maximum privacy and infection control.

Patient safety was at the core of the design process and as such each patient room has a built-in patient monitor connected to a central nursing station in addition to a state-of-the-art nurse call system. The rooms also feature medical grade fridge with patient locker to keep their valuables in.

The 16 patient rooms are generous in space offering floor to ceiling windows overlooking landscape and greenery. The room design theme offers a very inviting and comfortable environment be it in the choice of furniture or general design theme and colors.

For added patient safety, the room wall paint is composed of a special anti-bacterial coat so does the furniture whereby the upholstery has special anti-bacterial and fire retardant characteristics.

The same philosophy continues inside the patient toilets thus offering a safe and enjoyable environment. They are equipped with emergency nurse-call system in case patients need assistance while using the toilet/shower. For maximum infection control, all elements inside the toilet are wall hung.

Other key components inside the toilets are:

  • Anti-bacterial coat to the tiles (Microban TM)
  • Hansgrohe Rain shower
  • Shower seat
  • 2-in-1 Japanese style toilet from Swiss manufacturer Geberit

Endoscopy Department

The endoscopy department is composed of two state-of-the-art endoscopy suites that serves gastroenterology (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) and pulmonology (bronchoscopy).

One of the many highlights of the unit is the “Hybrid Endoscopy Suite” reserved for ERCP and advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) procedures.

The endoscopy department was designed to mimic operating room environment and includes the following components:

In addition to the above, the unit serves the rest of the hospital via portable imaging units such as portable x-ray, ultrasound, echo and c-arm units thus ensuring a service that is accessible in a timely and efficient manner.

What sets the imaging unit apart and makes it stand out are the generous spaces in addition to the intuitive internal workflow and circulation.

The unit has two separate entrances, one dedicated for women’s imaging connected via a skywalk to the Farah Woman & Child Hospital while the other entrance serves general imaging that is accessible via Farah General Hospital.

The unit is composed of two main corridors running parallel to each other, one strictly for authorized only personnel while the other is for patients. The authorized only corridor opens up into the control rooms of the different imaging modalities.

The patient corridor is 40 meters long and runs parallel to the external façade of the building with glass to ceiling windows overlooking the campus’s garden and pavilion. This ensures that the patient journey is met with uninterrupted sunlight with vast open spaces. The patient corridor opens up into changing room linked to each imaging modality. Each modality room also has its own private bathroom for patients to use thus ensuring maximum privacy.

The unit is served by a highly advanced and efficient IT network ensuring workflow is smooth and performed in a timely manner.

  • The OR rooms have been equipped with art panels (Philips Ambient System) to relieve patients of the often stressful feel of a traditional OR
  • The German-designed rooms aim at effective efficiency, that is why all cables are lifted off the floor- ensuring doctor and patient safety, and leaving the machines untouched
  • The OR is set up with all necessary tools at an arm’s length to ensure speedy treatment
  • It also is set up with four screens with the option to communicate On Air via the latest technologies; allowing a surgery to be live, and utilize the expertise of doctors in and out of the country
  • A special holding area is set up for patients to relax pre-op and have the opportunity to speak with the doctors, ask questions, and get briefed about everything
  • Post-op, patients are taken into recovery where they are woken up, checked and can then leave the department back to their rooms or home depending on each case

Anesthesia

  • At Farah General, the combination of the best anesthesia monitoring machines and the best anesthesiologists have been selected to provide unparalleled healthcare treatment
  • Anesthesia department is equipped with the best available technology available on the market; namely Maquet’s FLOW-i Anesthesia Delivery System – an anesthesia unit combining ICU ventilator performance with effective anesthesia delivery
  • The monitors monitor all vitals, boasting multiple ventilation moods so that patients can receive treatment at every and any stage of their healthcare plan, and that no detail is left unattended to
  • Anesthesia professionals are hand-selected by the top anesthesiologist in the Kingdom – based on the best standards of safety, knowledge, skills and experience
  • Farah specialists walk through the whole process of a patient’s treatment, remaining by their side and reassuring them throughout
  • In consultation with the primary care physician, anesthesiologists can determine where patients need to be admitted; whether that be to the regular rooms, the Intermediate Care Unit or the ICU – ensuring that they receive the appropriate level of attention and monitoring
  • There is a strict follow up with anesthesiologist to manage pain in post-op so patients are not left and experience no pain
  • Anesthesiologists are available to conduct regional anesthesia and stay with patients throughout their healthcare journey on a case by case basis

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The ICU sets a new benchmark in patient care pathway. It is a purpose built state-of-the-art unit located on the third floor connected to surgery and cath-lab & interventional radiology. The unit is composed of eight patient “suites” and spans a generous 700 sqm and is flooded with natural sunlight.

Being on the same floor as surgery and cath-labs and interventional radiology means that the ICU offers the safest possible environment for patients.

The ICU is equipped to deal with the most critical patients from surgical to cardiac to neurological etc… and together with the latest technologies coupled with highly trained healthcare providers, the patient is guaranteed to receive the best service with the best possible outcome.

The ICU has two separate entrances, one for authorized healthcare providers and the other for visiting family members thus ensuring optimum practicality and streamlining of circulation. It is of paramount importance to stress that access to the ICU is very selective and controlled and is by invitation only so as to allow the ICU team to focus on their patients and to provide them with the best possible care.

A key element in the design process was to ensure that family members are part of the healing process to their loved ones. As such each patient room has an adjacent connected room reserved for family members thus creating a patient “suite” rather than a typical ICU room.

Each suite is host to a number of advanced technologies such as but not limited to:

  • Touch-free electric doors for maximum infection control
  • Curtain free environment for maximum infection control
  • Hill-Rom ICU bed (first to be introduced in Jordan) equipped with latest technologies such as lung percussion module, air mattress to minimize bedsores and DVT risk, built-in scale etc…)
  • Automated medication infusion pumps
  • Built-in cameras for remote monitoring
  • Surgical grade light
  • Milky glass door elements that turn from clear to opaque at the touch of a button in case privacy is needed
  • State-of-the-art monitors connected to a central station
  • Neuro-telemetry

In addition to the above, the unit is served by an ECHO machine and ultrasound, portable X-ray unit, portable endoscopy tower, ECMO unit, mini-lab, mini-pharmacy, renal dialysis machines thus minimizing the transfer of patients to and from the unit.

Two of the ICU suites are positive/negative pressure rooms for isolating patients depending on case presentation (e.g, post-transplant vs infectious case).

From a design perspective, each suite features nature elements in the form of clouds and blue sky image on the ceiling above the patient in addition to nature themed wall elements (flowers, grass etc…) on the wall opposite the patient. The suites are flooded with natural sunlight thus minimizing the risk of patients developing ICU delirium which is a common side effect in ICU patients. Special attention was taken to ensure that artificial lighting inside the suite is warm and inviting. Each suite features 5 ambient themes depending on the function.

Special attention was taken regarding the furniture selection. As such the suites feature special upholstery with special ant-bacterial coat with high fire-retardant characteristics.

The family area features a sofa-bed in case a family member would like to spend the night (where applicable).

Cath-lab & Interventional Radiology

This state-of-the-art purpose built unit emphasizes and confirms that Farah General is one of the leading hospitals not only regionally but on the international stage as well dedicated to deliver the most advanced and state-of-the-art clinical services when it comes to interventional cardiology, interventional radiology and interventional neuro-radiology.

The unit is composed of two semi-hybrid cath-labs in additional to a fully dedicated hybrid operating room, the three being the first to be introduced in Jordan.

The unit spans a generous 700 sqm and is home to Jordan’s first cath-lab Philips ambient experience, a technology proven to reduce the stress and anxiety of patients during procedures and proven to reduce the need of anesthesia and sedation during procedures. This technology allows the patient to choose from 12 different nature themes (rain-forest, island, sahara etc…) whereby the theme transmits audio and visual components into ceiling mounted screens for the patient to enjoy. For our pediatric patients, kids themes are also available and are indeed very popular with our younger patients.

The unit serves several diagnostic, interventional and hybrid procedures such as the following:

  • Complex vascular procedures (AAA, aortic dissection etc…)
  • Minimally invasive cardiac procedures (TAVI etc…) The two semi-hybrid cath-labs are unique in the sense that they are equipped as operating room environment and include the following components:
  • White steel cladding
  • Anesthesia machine
  • Surgical light
  • IVUS & FFR made by volcano
  • Rotablator
  • Emergency crash cart
  • Angiojet clot remover
  • Scrub area

The above ensures maximum safety to our patients and guarantees that once a procedure is started in the semi-hybrid cath-labs, there is no need to transfer the patient to an operating room in case an emergency develops.
