It has always been a lifelong dream of mine to build a fully integrated medical campus to serve the people of Jordan and beyond. My vision for FMC is to be the beacon for healthcare for every member of the community and to be there every step of the way in healthcare delivery from before conception until end of life and to emphasize Jordan's well deserved and merited position as a global leader in healthcare
Dr. Zaid received his medical training from Goettingen University in West Germany back in 1964 before continuing his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in England. During his tenure in England, Dr. Zaid trained at the prestigious Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, home to the world’s first IVF baby “Louise Brown” before continuing his training in St. Bartholomew’s in London.
After returning back to Amman-Jordan in 1977, Dr. Zaid helped improve the level of patient care by introducing the latest and up to date medical practices from England and implementing them in major Jordanian government hospitals under the umbrella of Ministry of Health.
He opened his private practice in the early 1980’s with the aim of introducing IVF to Jordan and the region in addition to his routine
obstetrics and gynecology practice.
By no means was it a rosy journey as in 1985 his clinic was set on fire and his dream of introducing IVF suddenly became much farther than he anticipated. It didn’t end there, Dr. Zaid was called a mad man by many and the insults even reached the newspapers in the form of caricatures mocking IVF. Having gained tremendous Royal support from his Majesty the late King Hussein of Jordan, Dr. Zaid came out stronger and in 1987 put Jordan on the international map by delivering the first IVF baby in Jordan and the Arab World. This landmark event turned out to be the catalyst to what will become several decades later a comprehensive medical center internationally recognized as a center of excellence in several medical disciplines known as Farah Medical Campus. Dr. Zaid was honored to serve as a senator in His Majesty King Abdullah II senate for two successive cycles.
He was awarded the Jordanian Medal of Independence of the First Order by his Majesty the Late King Hussein of Jordan in 1994 and in 2017, he was awarded the Pioneer Star of Jordan award, bestowed upon him by His Majesty King Abdullah II at the World Science Forum held in the Dead Sea in recognition for his lifelong achievements in the field of medicine. Dr. Zaid is the founder and first president of the Jordanian Society for Fertility and Genetics, a society aimed at spreading knowledge and expertise in this exciting field to Jordan and beyond. He is the author and co-author of several important publications featured in world-renowned journals and books such as the American Journal of Human Genetics, British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Human Reproduction to mention a few.
